We have an amazing staff of caring, dedicated and talented teachers! All of our lead teachers have degrees and all of our assistant teachers, either have a degree, are working on their degree or have significant experience in an educational setting. Teachers attend professional development classes on a continuing basis. All of our staff are certified in CPR/First Aid, Epi-pen Administration and Daily Health Observation. Our staff also receives two different abuse prevention trainings – one state mandated and one mandated by the Episcopal Diocese.
Early childhood is an important stage of development. Children grow and learn in developmental stages. The rate of development varies according to the individual child. In order to help the children develop to their fullest potential, we offer a variety of activities that alternate between active/quiet and child/teacher directed.
St. Christopher’s Preschool began in September 1961 as a Mother’s Day Out program to provide a ministry to mothers of young children. Since that time the school has grown into a developmental program, which serves 75 children each school day. SCP is a member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools.
The preschool is an active mission of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. As such, we are wholly owned and operated by the church and our staff, students and families are considered to be an extension of the church family. A Board of Governors from the church administers the school.
SCP promotes a positive and loving atmosphere that provides experiences for children to grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically, and spiritually. The school focuses on promoting the children’s independence and self-confidence while teaching them the joys of learning.
Tours of the school are by appointment Monday through Friday during school hours and may be arranged at other times by calling the preschool office at 703-451-1845. We love talking about our school!
